Marble Pre-fab

I am coming off a HP7 Part II high so hence the late posting this evening. Things are moving a little faster than a snail’s pace at Chez Rae Rae. We are heading towards another milestone event: countertop installation. Out of all the changes to the kitchen the countertop required the most brain power and deliberation. I have always wanted marble. I love the look and more importantly the way it handles different elements of pastry making. H. on the other hand was concerned about the maintenance and cost. In the end, after endless research, I was able to convince him marble was the way to go.

The marble selected is called “Calacutta Sunrise.” It has slightly gray and gold veining. What is special about this marble is that it falls into the Danby marble family. The stone was quarried from Vermont. So it’s really “Made in the USA” and their claim to fame is that it’s a little more dense than granite. Thus, staining and etching can be better minimized compared to other types of marble.

Below are the pics of the slab getting ready for cutting. The marks indicate which part of the slab is going to go in which part of the kitchen. There is a slim possibility we can get it installed Monday. We will see. Just like everything else, big talk, slow action.
