Today was another milestone. The countertops have been installed! As mentioned in the previous post, the marble is a Danby marble called “calacutta sunrise.” We lucked out with one slab for the whole kitchen. It is a 3cm honed surface – perfect to hide imperfections or blemishes. While polished marble looks great, over time I think I would lose my mind worrying about spills and etching and being able to see it as I walk past the counter. Not that it can’t happen with honed. It just masks it a whole lot better.
The edge is a simple “straight edge” or polished. Nothing fancy. I did have a horrible dream last week that the slab installed ended up being a kaleidoscope of colors – rainbow everywhere with a crazy waterfall edge. Another time and another place for that story. Can you tell I have been thinking about this way too much?!?
As far as the sink and faucet goes, the sink is from Kohler’s “vault” collection. Awesome deal at Home Depot. Even better, the hubby was very happy that the basins were not equal and the divider was recessed. Talk about picky! The faucet on the other hand, was a major undertaking. We wanted a pull out sprayer, but didn’t look like a pull out. And the one we really liked was outside our price point. One night trolling around on-line I found the one below. It’s a new faucet by Brizo called “Solna.” Very happy.
Enjoy the pictures.
